Under Construction
Basically played with codes of inserting images, onmouseover and onmouseout effect, div and span tags, background color, font color...
The idea came from a japanese website I came along some time before, simple layout, pure text really but consist of links and messages posted by everyone who feels like saying anything.
Ah, forgot to mention the site's title page its sort of eyecatching...

當年今日 (the past of today)

Clay Shirky's denfence or to state in Chapter 1 - It Takes A Village To Find A Phone, evolution is taking place very second. The coming of the internet allowed the spread of information, point of perspective and in return rally a group that finally have access to information which cannot be reached by reaching out your hand (excluding the contact with the mouse that clicks the screen now sitting in front of you) who would also present their comment both support or oppose that builds this social network or form this sort of group where we all interact through words instantly.
On the other hand Malcolm Gladwell pointed out in Small Change that social media are built around weak ties. Twitter is a way of following (or being followed by) people you may never have met. Facebook is a tool for efficiently managing your acquaintances, for keeping up with the people you would not otherwise be able to stay in touch with. That’s why you can have a thousand “friends” on Facebook, as you never could in real life. And to mention before the existence of internet which allowed the construction of the social network, people use to rally people for and during protest to present their freedom of speech through "actual" friends, in other words the more friends you and your friends have, the greater the protest.
I personally agree with Malcolm Gladwell seeing it as a stronger argument which in my own words is that evolution has simplified our lifes yet also regression takes place. The so called people to people interaction has reached an extiniction point where spoken speech has been replaced by words typed posted on a wall or pre-recorded media where leaving the house... steping out of the room or getting off bed (for me that is) is no longer necessary to do literally anything. However on the brightside (?) the number of participation has increased gradually due to the little amount of effort (to none) required, with a simple type, shoot, record, etc. and people are already seeing more, hearing more, saying more, participating more (virtually), the social network has expanded knowledge within the least amount of time required. Therefore I would say its a win-lose situation for both sides, an action comes with a reaction, it can't be helped, atleast we are still sort of communicating as I type and you read.

Inspiration

David Hoffos' exhibition at MOCCA

The exhibition involves the usage of dark space/vision, mirrors, glass, TV, what I believe to be horrify/mysterious background music, and replica of a forest or village, etc. to recreate what is known as Scenes from the House Dream, yet due to a fact that I have no idea what else to mention, I’ll go with each work that I understand. The first one involves the moving of a blimp up and down accompanied by a television playing selective scenes of fireworks explosions reflected upon the glass that stood between the television and the blimp, as a result one would assume that the blimp is flying through the fireworks which I may interpret as a prototype for his other works came to my understanding much earlier. Then it was the second piece that lead to my understanding (sort of) of his work. It consists of a living room replica lit by the fireplace where a man interacts with the objects that exist within the room as projected through the television that lies behind and into the glass as if as if an actual man in motion existed within the replica through reflection under darkness. Now skipping over many works that holds a similar principle to the first and second piece, you would encounter what to believe a female figure sitting at a coffee table accompanied by books or coffee (which actually lead my first thought to an actually person in watch). Apparently it was a projection of an image or video (I can’t recall whether it was moving or not) or a piece of black cardboard divided into dimensions providing the illusion of 3D-ness.

Is the web REALLY DEAD???

The society has grown, and so should technology. The word that runs the world nowadays is speed (at least for PARTS of the world...no offence to other countries), in other words technology needs to be in sycn with our pace and the web isn't doing so, that is where apps come into place. It's a trend where we begin with post mail yet there's this GAP between the sender and the receiver. Same goes to newspaper and telegraph, the wait for the print, delivery, and translate no longer meets the requirement of the world. Then comes the telephone and television, where the people request FASTER ACCESS and BETTER CONNIVENCE and is now replaced with YouTube and text messages where the intended/specific information can be accessed anytime anywhere yet still tied to the need of web access (excluding sms). And it all comes down to today where apps runs our lives with out the need of the web, technology is finally in sync (for now) with our pace and not long before we require more. Therefore it is not us to blame, nor them, its just a part of the trend where the something JUST abit better replaces another inorder to meet our needs. And the web isn't dead, and so is television, phone, post mail (maybe telegraph but who still uses that), its just placed aside for now due to its inconvenience.

Remix Video: Test Type 2

The Remix Video is more focused on the linkage between the subject and less on the audio (except the last part which is what I'm most satisfied with). Also to point out that it contains the following sources brought to you by YouTube which I take no credit for: Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty PV, Halo 3 PV, Halo: Reach PV, and Lost Planet: Extreme Condition

Intro: Very little about me

I'm Matthew Leung (or Matt, ML, etc. is fine whichever you prefer). Anyways I'm a second year York University student currently majoring in Art History and am having second thoughts on transferring over to becoming a Digital Media major. There's really not a lot I can say about myself but I'm interested in films/movies, advertisements/trailers, games, etc. and hope find what I might be looking for in this course.

Regarding the remix image... actually there is nothing I could say except that it was just some small thing I wanted to try out and has achieved the result. Not what I expected to be honest, gotta touch up on my photoshop skills...

This is my first time actually hosting a blog (excluding the one time in xanga where I needed that one post to upload some images and has never updated again) so I guess I'm looking forward to what this may become...
